About the Study
One scroll of the Classic, a half-cup of clear tea
What is “Qíhuáng” (岐黄)?
“Qí” (岐) refers to Qíbó (岐伯); “Huáng” (黄) refers to the Yellow Emperor (Huángdì, 黄帝). The Huángdì Nèijīng (《黄帝内经》), the foundational classic of Chinese medicine, is framed as a dialogue between the Yellow Emperor and his minister Qíbó. Later generations thus used “Qíhuáng” (岐黄) as a metonym for Chinese medicine as a whole. The Study (“Shūfáng”, 书房) is named in the spirit of Qíbó and the Yellow Emperor’s inquiry — turning the wisdom of Chinese medicine into words that ordinary people can read and use.
What you’ll find here
“In ancient times those who knew the Way modeled themselves on Yin and Yang, lived in harmony with the arts of numerology, ate and drank in moderation, rose and slept with regularity, and did not tax themselves with useless labor. Thus body and spirit were both kept whole, and they lived out their full span of a hundred years.”
— Huángdì Nèijīng · Sùwèn · Shànggǔ Tiānzhēn Lùn (Chapter 1)
The Study organizes its content around seven themes:
- Solar Terms (节气养生) — Following the 24 solar terms, harmonizing Heaven and humankind
- Food Therapy & Herbs (食疗本草) — Food and medicine share the same root; nourishment in everyday meals
- Four Seasons (四季调养) — Spring births, summer grows, autumn reaps, winter stores
- Meridians & Acupoints (经络穴位) — Where meridians flow and acupoints reach
- Daily Rhythms (起居有常) — Regular daily life, no wasteful labor
- Emotions & Spirit (情志养生) — Calm and empty, spirit guarded within
- TCM Classics (中医经典) — The source of Qíhuáng, with original texts and translations side by side
What we hope for
That each visitor, after reading one article, may remember a single sentence — and that this sentence may offer a little warmth on a cold winter night or a troubled afternoon.
